Tattoo and piercing aftercare information

Once you have left our studio, it is very important that you follow the verbal and written aftercare advice that we give you. Our staff are highly skilled, but skill will count for absolutely nothing if a tattoo or piercing is not allowed to heal properly. If you follow our advice carefully, you should have no problems at all during the healing process.

Tattoo aftercare

  • You must purchase tattoo cream and apply daily making sure that the tattoo never dries out. We recommend Tattoo Equilibre (available in our studio at a cost of £5) or Bepanthen. These really are the best products to ensure that your tattoo retains its vibrant colours and heals properly. PLEASE AVOID ANY OTHER CREAM NOT RECOMMENDED BY OUR TATTOOISTS
  • Your tattoo will be covered with cling film once completed. You must leave the film on for the period of time that the tattooist recommends (usually 2-4 hours).
  • Once you have carefully removed the film, you need to carefully wash away the inky paste that may form under the film, with a mild soap such as Dove or Simple.
  • DO NOT PICK OR SCRATCH THE TATTOO
  • Always wash and dry your hands before touching your tattoo.
  • Avoid swimming, sun beds and saunas until the tattoo has completely healed.
  • Always protect your healed tattoo with sun block.
  • If possible always shower rather than taking a bath, and never soak the tattoo under water.
  • Try to wear loose cotton clothing & always keep the tattoo covered if working in a dusty/oily/dirty environment.

Oral piercing aftercare (tongue, lip, cheek etc):

  • You must rinse your mouth out with a non-alcoholic mouthwash every time something goes to your mouth e.g. every time you eat, drink or smoke. You should be aiming for 20-30 times per day.
  • We sell a mouthwash specially formulated for oral piercings in the studio (£5). This must be diluted to the following proportions:  1cm of mouthwash to a whole mug of water.
  • YOU MUST NOT DRINK ALCOHOL for the first 2-3 weeks.
  • No oral contact for the first 2-3 weeks.
  • No smoking for the first 3 days.
  • No aspirin for the first week.
  • Avoid Spicy and acidic food and drink for the first three days.

External piercing aftercare

  • You must clean your piercing twice a day. We strongly advise you to buy our specially formulated solution for cleaning external piercings. This is available in our studio at a cost of £5. You must clean the piercing twice per day for at least two months (depending on piercing).
  • Do not clean the piercing more than twice per day, excessive cleaning can slow down the healing process.
  • To clean the piercing, wash your hands thoroughly, spray the solution onto the piercing or on to clean tissue (Do not use cotton or cotton buds). Wipe away any yellow discharge (lymph) from the piercing.
  • Do not fiddle with your piercing. Most infections occur due to bacteria from your hands getting inside the piercing.
  • Avoid cosmetics and soaps for 2-3 weeks, no matter how mild because the ingredients may irritate the piercing.
  • Avoid heat sources. For example, for ear piercings, cover your ear with your hand while blow drying your hair on a hot setting. Put a towel over a navel piercing while sunbathing.
  • Wear loose fitting clothing around the piercing. Constant pressure can be a source of irritation
  • Do not sleep on the piercing.
  • Avoid wearing a plaster on the piercing when not necessary.
  • There is no need to remove jewellery for cleaning during the healing period. Generally piercings can close up within an hour. Never remove your new jewellery before the initial healing period. After this time we invite you to come back to the studio to choose a new piece of jewellery.
